Bike rental in Palma de Mallorca is the cheapest and most pleasant way to link the cathedral, the harbour and the beaches to the east without battling for parking. The city has a flat cycle lane by the sea, rental shops a short walk from La Seu (the cathedral) and guided bike, e-bike and segway tours for most tastes. What you should know first: the public bike scheme is not designed for visitors, e-scooters have strict rules, and a 125 cc scooter needs more licence than many people think.

Bike rental in Palma de Mallorca: where and how much

The most central shop is Palma On Bike, at Avinguda d'Antoni Maura 10, at the end of the Born and within sight of the cathedral and Parc de la Mar. It opens every day 09:30–13:00 and 16:00–19:00: it closes at midday, so collect your bike in the morning. Daily prices published on palmaonbike.com:

Type Price per day
City bike €10–12
Trekking €15–18
E-bike €25–35
Road bike €28–50
Mountain / e-MTB €35
Gravel €40
E-scooter €20

A basket and lock are included, and they will deliver the bike to your hotel if you ask. If you are staying in Playa de Palma, Can Pastilla has around fifteen rental shops, so there is no need to come into the centre for one.

The classic route: the seafront cycle lane

The Passeig Marítim (Avinguda Gabriel Roca) has a cycle lane of more than 5 km between Porto Pi and Es Portitxol, right alongside the harbour and the boats. From Portixol it continues through Es Molinar and Ciutat Jardí to Can Pastilla, where it joins the Playa de Palma lane, which runs to S'Arenal.

The classic plan: leave the cathedral in the morning, pedal east via Portixol and Ciutat Jardí, have lunch in Can Pastilla and ride back at an easy pace. It is flat, almost entirely by the sea and passes some of the handiest Palma beaches for a swim halfway.

Bike tours in Palma: prices and which to choose

If you would rather someone told you what you are looking at, bike tours are a nimble alternative to walking tours: you cover the old town and the waterfront in half the time. The ones listed in Visit Palma's official directory:

  • Palma On Bike, city tour (2 h 30, departures 10:30 and 15:30): €40 for a single adult, €35 per person for two or more, €25 under 12.
  • Palma On Bike, tapas bike tour (2 h 30, at 11:00): from €45, suitable for all ages.
  • Palma On Bike, road bike ride (4 h): €75, over-18s only.
  • Call & Ride Mallorca, from Plaça del Rosari: 3 h Easy Bike for €49–59 and 5 h Easy Bike with tapas for €59–69.

These prices change with the season: confirm them on the official guided tours list before you go.

GetYourGuide has a wider range: the easy small-group bike tour from €49 (4.6 with almost 600 reviews), a fat-tyre e-bike ride from €36.79, the bike tour with tapas and a drink from €61 or a 3-hour historical e-bike tour from €70.

Segway tours in Palma: age and price

Segway tours are very popular in the old town and around the harbour. Segway Palma, listed in the official directory, requires riders to be at least 12 and weigh between 40 and 120 kg. Its prices:

  • Old town, 1 h 15 (about 6.5 km): €40
  • Old town and harbour, 2 h: €75
  • Old town and bay, 3 h: €110
  • Private version: €20 extra per person

On the platforms you will see several segway tours with very high ratings: the 1-hour tour with a local guide from €37.59 (4.9 with more than 300 reviews), the 90-minute best of Palma from €64.99 or the 2-hour tour from €60.79. The Sa Coma and Cala Millor ones that also show up are for people staying in the east, not in Palma.

Our picks on wheels

1

First time in Palma

Three hours by bike in a small group: you see the old town and the waterfront without rushing, at a fair price.

2

Short on time or off a cruise ship

One hour on a segway with a guide, the highest rating on the list and easy to slot between two sights.

3

Families and the less fit

Fat-tyre e-bike: stable, effortless and shorter.

4

Eat along the way

Bike route with tapas and a drink: part ride, part tasting.

E-scooters in Palma: rules and fines

No grey areas here: Palma's civic bylaw treats e-scooters as vehicles, and the police do fine. The essentials if you rent one (Palma On Bike has them for €20 a day):

  • Banned on pavements, squares, parks, gardens and pedestrian zones. That includes much of the old town.
  • You may ride on streets limited to 30 or 40 km/h, in the cycle lane at 10 km/h maximum (slower than it sounds) and in lanes between parking and the pavement at 15 km/h.
  • Helmet compulsory (€90 fine) and a visible reflective vest (€90).
  • Third-party liability insurance of at least €120,000, with the papers on you: without it, a €600 fine and the police can impound the scooter. Ask the shop whether the rental includes that insurance.
  • Minimum age 16 (15 with an AM licence), one rider only and no headphones.

The same bylaw limits the size of guided groups and bans megaphones (€750 fine), which you will notice on bike and segway tours: small groups and guides using their own voice.

BiciPalma: why it is no use to visitors

BiciPalma is the city council's public bike scheme, with around 125 stations and 1,250 bikes, and it keeps expanding towards Ciutat Jardí, Can Pastilla, Playa de Palma and the seafront. The problem is the pass: since 1 August 2025 only the €30 annual pass exists, as the one-, three- and six-month passes were scrapped. On top of that there are usage charges for e-bikes after the first half hour.

You can register in the app even if you do not live here, but for a week's holiday it does not pay off: a day's bike rental costs €10–12 and the bike is yours all day, with no hunting for a station.

Scooter rental in Palma de Mallorca: which licence you need

In Palma "scooter" can mean an e-scooter or a moped. If we are talking motorbikes, the licence decides, under Spain's Reglamento General de Conductores (General Drivers' Regulations):

Vehicle Licence required
50 cc moped AM (from 15)
125 cc scooter A1 (from 16), or a car licence (B) held for more than 3 years
Over 125 cc A2 (age 18) or A (age 20)

The three-years-on-a-car-licence rule is the classic trap: many people think one year is enough. And note that this equivalence applies only within Spain. If you have held your car licence for less time, stick to a bike or e-scooter. Moped rental prices vary a lot by shop and season: compare the excess and the insurance, not just the daily rate.

If you fancy something more powerful, look at buggy and quad tours, which you drive on a car licence, or what is really on offer for supercar driving in Mallorca.

Tips for getting around Palma on wheels

  • Morning or early evening in summer: the seafront lane has no shade along many stretches.
  • Always lock up, even if you stop for five minutes for a coffee in Portixol.
  • Do the old town on foot: the streets are narrow, stepped and pedestrianised. Leave the bike on the Born or by the cathedral and walk in.
  • A tapas tour if local food interests you: it pairs well with the guide to Palma tapas and markets.
  • For everything else, from the sea to flamenco, see the guide to things to do in Palma.
