Palma nightlife is really three different nights sharing one city. The locals' night, in the bars of Santa Catalina and Sa Gerreria; the clubs of the Paseo Marítimo, facing the harbour; and the big German venues of Playa de Palma, the famous Ballermann, which is 35–50 minutes by bus from the cathedral and lives under a Balearic law banning things that are still legal in the centre.

Before you choose, two things are worth knowing. Tito's, the legendary club on the Paseo Marítimo, no longer exists under that name. And the alcohol rules are not the same across the city: they depend on which street you are in.

Where to go out in Palma: the nightlife areas

Area What is there Best for Special rules
Santa Catalina Restaurants, cocktail bars, the market by day Dinner and a relaxed drink No
Sa Gerreria and old town Small bars in narrow streets Local crowd, tapas, Tuesdays No
Paseo Marítimo and Club de Mar Clubs and a beach club facing the boats Dancing until late No
Playa de Palma (Balneario 6) and S'Arenal Megapark, Bierkönig, German venues Group parties, German music Yes
Magaluf (Punta Ballena) Resort clubs and bars, BCM British and group parties Yes

Santa Catalina is the neighbourhood west of the centre, between Es Baluard and the Paseo Marítimo. Its nights are about restaurants and cocktails rather than clubs, and on Saturday afternoons the market counter fills with people having a vermouth (the market bars close at 17:00). Sa Gerreria, just east of Plaça de Cort and Plaça Major, is the other neighbourhood where Palma locals drink, and home to the traditional Tuesday Ruta Martiana: we cover it in tapas and food.

Nightclubs in Palma de Mallorca: the Paseo Marítimo today

The Paseo Marítimo (Passeig Marítim) is Palma's club strip. What you need to know if you are looking for the old names:

  • Tito's is no longer Tito's. The building was sold and went through a phase as a dinner cabaret (Lío Mallorca), which closed. It has reopened as Fitz Mallorca. If a guide or review sends you "to Tito's", it is out of date.
  • MarSalada opened in the renovated Club de Mar: beach club and restaurant by day, club by night.
  • In Magaluf, the big club is BCM, in the Punta Ballena area, about 35 minutes from Palma by bus.

Opening hours, entry prices and age policy change every season and are not always published: check the venue's social media on the day. If you are having dinner first, the Tablao Flamenco Alma has a one-hour show at 21:30, five minutes from Plaça d'Espanya, which fits nicely before a night out.

Ballermann on Playa de Palma: Megapark, Bierkönig and Balneario 6

"Ballermann" is the German nickname for Balneario 6 on Playa de Palma (bus stop "Balneari 6 – les Meravelles"). Playa de Palma is a city beach of about 4.6 km between Can Pastilla and S'Arenal, with 15 numbered kiosks (balnearios) along the promenade. The last stretch, S'Arenal, belongs to the municipality of Llucmajor.

The two best-known names:

  • Megapark (Playa de Palma / S'Arenal): seasonal, running until October, with its closing party in the middle of that month. In winter, do not count on it.
  • Bierkönig (C/ Pare Bartomeu Salvà 6–8): says it opens 365 days a year, daily from 10:00.

Bus from Palma to the Ballermann

  • EMT 25: leaves from Plaça de la Reina (next to the cathedral) and runs the length of the Playa de Palma promenade to Balneario 1 in S'Arenal. Roughly every 10 minutes, 05:25 to 01:55; the ride takes 35 to 50 minutes.
  • EMT 23: from Plaça d'Espanya through inland streets, stopping at Balneario 6; every 20 minutes, but the last one leaves around 22:10.
  • Line 15, mentioned in older guides, no longer exists.

To get back in the small hours, the 25 is your bus. Pay with a contactless bank card: it is the cheapest EMT fare. More on timetables and stops in public transport in Palma.

Alcohol rules and fines: where they apply and where they do not

This is the part almost no nightlife website explains properly. The Balearics have a responsible-tourism decree (formerly called the "excess tourism" decree), in force until 31 December 2027, which applies only in four zones drawn street by street:

  • Playa de Palma, within a perimeter covering the whole seafront of the S'Arenal road.
  • S'Arenal (Llucmajor).
  • Magaluf (Calvià): Punta Ballena and nearby streets, plus the Magaluf promenade.
  • Sant Antoni, in Ibiza.

A venue is covered if it has an entrance inside the zone. Santa Catalina, Sa Gerreria, the old town and Palma's Paseo Marítimo are outside.

Inside the zones:

  • Happy hours, open bars, 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 deals and free drinks are banned: every drink is sold at its single-unit price. A lunch or dinner set menu can include no more than three alcoholic drinks per person.
  • Pub crawls are illegal: organising, advertising or selling them, or leading people round bars.
  • Shops that sell alcohol must close from 21:30 to 08:00. Bars and restaurants are not bound by these hours.
  • Drinking in the street is banned, except on licensed terraces and at local festivals: €500 to €1,500.
  • Bars must stop you leaving with your drink.
  • Party boats with alcohol and music may not pick up or drop off customers in these zones, or come within one nautical mile of their coast.

And on all the islands, not just in the zones: balconing (jumping or climbing between balconies) is banned and the hotel is obliged to evict you.

And in the rest of Palma

The centre has its own municipal civic bylaw, which also bans drinking in the street (with announced fines of €750 to €1,500), caps guided groups at 20 people and bans megaphones. In other words: outside the zones there are no limits on shop hours or on drinks offers, but a bottle in the square is not a good idea in Santa Catalina either.

Palma at night without a club: walks, flamenco and boats

Not everyone wants a club. The three alternatives that work best:

An evening walk through the old town. The old town night tour, 2 hours from €39, is rated 4.8 out of 5 by more than 700 people: the old town in a different light and without the daytime crowds. If you are travelling in a group, remember that guided groups cannot exceed 20 people.

Flamenco. Palma's only tablao is Tablao Flamenco Alma (Av. de Portugal 5), with daily one-hour shows at 17:30, 19:30 and 21:30, with a drink or with a drink and tapas. It does not serve dinner. The old Son Amar show is closed to the public.

A boat at sunset or after dark. Party boats leave from the Golondrinas pier on the Paseo Marítimo, not from the beaches. The best known is the Barca Samba: its "Palma by Night" trip runs 22:30 to 01:30, over-18s only, from €39.90, with pizza and water included and the bar extra; the sunset trip leaves at 19:00 for three hours, from €49.90. It takes a maximum of 112 passengers and fancy dress is not allowed. More options in sunset cruises and in our Barca Samba review.

Magaluf at night from Palma

Magaluf is not Palma: it is a resort in the municipality of Calvià, and Punta Ballena is inside one of the special-rules zones. If you want to see it, the TIB 104 leaves from the Estació Intermodal (Plaça d'Espanya) roughly every 15 minutes and takes about 30–35 minutes; from Magaluf there are buses back until after midnight. Check the last departure on tib.org before you go, because timetables change by season.

For a show night in Magaluf, the Pirates group has adult versions: Pirates Reloaded and Gringos, a bingo-and-party night for over-18s sold from €49.99. More context in stag and hen parties in Mallorca and towns near Palma.

Getting back to your hotel

  • From Playa de Palma: EMT 25 until almost 02:00.
  • From Magaluf: TIB 104 (check the last departure).
  • Within Palma: metered taxi or Uber, which operates in the city; Bolt and Cabify do not.

If you are staying in Playa de Palma or Magaluf, buy water and something to eat before 21:30: from then on, shops in the zone that sell alcohol have to close.

Where to go out at night in Palma de Mallorca?

Santa Catalina and Sa Gerreria for bars and a local crowd; the Paseo Marítimo and Club de Mar for clubs; Playa de Palma (Balneario 6) for the German Ballermann party scene.

Is Tito's nightclub in Palma still open?

No. The Paseo Marítimo building changed hands, became the Lío cabaret and has reopened as Fitz Mallorca. Tito's as such no longer exists.

Which bus goes from Palma to the Ballermann?

The EMT 25, from Plaça de la Reina (cathedral), along the whole Playa de Palma promenade, roughly every 10 minutes until almost 02:00. The 23 leaves from Plaça d'Espanya, but the last one is around 22:10.

Can you drink in the street in Palma?

No. In Playa de Palma, S'Arenal and Magaluf the fine is €500 to €1,500; in the rest of Palma the municipal civic bylaw bans it. Licensed terraces are the exception.

Is there happy hour at the Ballermann?

No: in the Playa de Palma, S'Arenal and Magaluf zones happy hours, open bars and 2-for-1 deals are banned. That ban does not apply in central Palma.

Until when is Megapark open?

It runs seasonally until October and closes with a party in the middle of that month. Bierkönig, by contrast, says it opens all year round.
