If you are looking for a jet ski in Palma, the first thing to know is that there is nothing on the Paseo Marítimo. The "Palma" tours meet at Club Nàutic Cala Gamba, on the stretch of coast between Coll d'en Rabassa and Can Pastilla, and on S'Arenal beach, at the far end of Playa de Palma. Further out is Magaluf. Here is where, how much, which routes there are, and the cheaper alternative: the speedboat.

Jet skis without a licence in Palma: what the law says

Jet skis have their own regulations (Real Decreto 259/2002), separate from those for boats. What matters to you:

  • Without a nautical qualification you can only ride a jet ski on a guided tour with an instructor or inside a buoyed circuit.
  • To go out on your own you need a qualification. The simplest, the Licencia de Navegación, takes a day and is enough. I explain it in the boat rental guide.
  • The driver must be 18, or 16–17 with signed parental consent.
  • Maximum 2 people per jet ski and maximum 4 jet skis per instructor on tours.
  • Life jackets compulsory for everyone. Rental jet skis are capped at 60 hp and must be insured.
  • Never inside buoyed swimming areas.

You can read the consolidated text in the BOE, Spain's official gazette: https://www.boe.es/eli/es/rd/2002/03/08/259/con

Club Nàutic Cala Gamba: the closest option to the centre

The main operator is Mallorca On Jetski. Its Palma tours meet at Club Nàutic Cala Gamba (Passeig Cala Gamba, Coll d'en Rabassa), just before Can Pastilla. It runs two routes:

  • Cathedral safari: 30 minutes, from €99 per jet ski (one or two people), with a qualified guide, life jacket and Sea-Doo GTX 130 Pro jet skis. You see La Seu (the cathedral) and the seafront from the water. Photos +€10, transfer +€10. Arrive 30 minutes early. Free cancellation up to 24 h.
  • Los Deltas safari: 1 hour towards the marine reserve, past Cap Rocat, Cala Vella and Son Veri, about 7 km of coastline. On the booking platforms it starts from €169. There are showers and changing rooms.

Best for families: here passengers can be as young as 5. With small children, Cala Gamba is your place.

By bus, EMT line 35 runs along that coast towards Can Pastilla; check https://www.emtpalma.cat for the stop nearest the club. The club has parking.

S'Arenal: Life & Sea, right on the beach

At the other end of Playa de Palma, Life & Sea leaves from S'Arenal beach, next to Club Nàutic S'Arenal:

  • 25 minutes guided: €80 for one person, €95 for two on the same jet ski.
  • 55 minutes: from €160.
  • Departures every 30 minutes from 10:00 to 20:00 (advertised summer hours).
  • Passengers must be at least 12 and ride with their guardian. You must be able to swim.
  • They ask for ID or a passport before you board, and no alcohol that day.
  • No phones, bags, glasses or jewellery on board: there are lockers. Photos €10.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 h. Access is across the sand, not wheelchair-accessible.

From the cathedral, take EMT 25, which runs the whole length of Playa de Palma to Balneari 1 (35 to 50 minutes). From the airport, EMT A2 stops at s'Arenal Club Nàutic.

Magaluf

On Magaluf beach, Watersports Mallorca Jet Ski runs jet ski safaris (two per jet ski), parasailing, banana boat and speedboat rides. Hours are 12:00 to 16:30 and no prices are published: ask on the beach. It may cancel at short notice if the sea is rough. From Palma, TIB 104 leaves every 15 minutes for Palmanova and Magaluf. Speedboats in Palma: the cheapest way to go fast

If what you are after is the rush of speed rather than driving yourself, a speedboat costs a fraction of a jet ski. These are the direct departures in the bay:

Speedboat Operator Leaves from Duration Price
435 hp Speed Boat with a stop at a sea cave Life & Sea S'Arenal, every hour from 11:15 to 20:15 1 h €40 per person
Speedboat to Illetes with swimming and snorkelling Sa Calma Boats Can Pastilla 2 h €45 per person
"Limitless" speedboat to the Malgrats islands Cruceros Costa de Calvià Magaluf 12:00/15:00, Son Matias 12:10/15:10; Wednesday, Friday and Sunday about 2 h €40 / child €30

The Life & Sea ride is the easiest: from age 10 and you do not need to swim. On the other hand, the skipper may turn someone away on grounds of age, build, disability or pregnancy; no drinks are allowed on board, and if the weather changes they alter the trip without compensation.

On the booking platforms you will see a "1-hour speedboat adventure" around the bay from €40 and a 2-hour tour with a swim stop from €39.75. Read the duration on the listing carefully before booking: on some adverts the title and description do not match.

Pros

  • Speedboat: €40 per person against €80 for the shortest jet ski ride.
  • Speedboat: no need to swim and children from 10 can go.
  • Jet ski at Cala Gamba: passengers from 5 and views of the cathedral.

Cons

  • Jet ski: bring ID or a passport and no alcohol that day.
  • Jet ski: no phones on board; photos cost extra.
  • Speedboat: pregnant passengers are refused and no drinks on board.

Hours and season: what the advert does not say

By law, jet skis can only operate from one hour after sunrise until one hour before sunset. In the first half of October the sun sets between 19:10 and 19:35 (and around 17:50 after the clock change), so the 20:00 departures advertised in summer are not possible outside high season. If you go in autumn, book a morning or early-afternoon slot. Exact sunset times are here:

Other practical points:

  • The sea decides. In windy weather, departures are cancelled or rerouted. If you only have one free day, book with free 24-hour cancellation.
  • Calmer mornings. The water in the bay is usually flatter in the morning: fewer bumps, more fun.
  • Marine reserves. In the Ponent islands reserve (El Toro, Malgrats) jet skis are banned from the zones of maximum protection, and around Sa Dragonera all craft must stay under 10 knots. Guided routes already allow for this.

With children, as a couple or in a group

  • With young children: Cala Gamba takes passengers from 5; Life & Sea from 12. For children aged 10 and over, the speedboat is cheaper and does not require swimming. More ideas in Palma with kids.
  • As a couple: one jet ski for two on the cathedral safari, or the Los Deltas route if you want a full hour.
  • Stag and hen parties: a jet ski or speedboat is legal and fun; a party boat at S'Arenal or Magaluf is not. Boats with alcohol and parties may not pick up there or come within 1 mile. More in stag and hen parties in Palma.

If you still want more time on the water, S'Arenal also has parasailing and banana boats: see the guide to parasailing and water sports. For something calmer, look at the boat trips around the bay.

Jet skis elsewhere in Mallorca

If you are staying far from Palma, there is no need to come back: there are jet skis in Alcúdia, Port de Pollença, Cala Millor and Cala d'Or, with routes to sea caves and lighthouses.
