Headout in Palma: reviews, fees and what it really sells

Headout is legit and well rated, but in Palma it is rarely the cheapest option: it adds a booking fee at checkout and the cathedral costs €15. It pays off in specific cases, such as Drach from Palma or the Hams caves.

Headout is an American platform for tickets and excursions that resells products from other companies. If you are wondering what Headout is and whether it is legit, the short answer is yes: it has 4.4 on Trustpilot and responds quickly to complaints. But in Palma, compare the final price, because it adds a booking fee on top of the advertised price and for the cathedral it is the most expensive of the three platforms.

What Headout is and who is behind it

Headout was founded in 2014 and the company you contract with is Headout Inc., a US company based in New York. It is privately held, venture-backed and has offices in Europe, including Barcelona and Rome. It has not been sold. It says it has served more than 55 million customers.

Like GetYourGuide or Tiqets, Headout is an intermediary: it sells the ticket or excursion, but the service is provided by the museum, the cave or the coach company. Its speciality is tickets to monuments and attractions, with very few tours of its own in Palma.

What Headout sells in Mallorca

There is a common idea that Headout only sells the Palma sightseeing bus. Not so. When we checked, its Mallorca catalogue included:

  • Palma Cathedral: skip-the-line ticket (4.6 from about 1,700 reviews, its top-rated product on the island) and the ticket with terraces (4.6 from about 210).
  • City Sightseeing bus: on its own or combined with the cathedral, Marineland or Western Water Park.
  • Caves: Hams, with optional transfer and a combo with Dinosaurland, and Drach with coach from Palma.
  • Rafa Nadal Museum in Manacor, on its own or with a visit to the Academy.
  • Parks: Marineland, Katmandu Park and Western Water Park.
  • Boats and excursions: a sunset cruise in the Bay of Palma, a vintage boat-and-train tour, and an excursion to Valldemossa and Sóller.

For the cathedral our advice is clear: buy on the official website (check the price on catedraldemallorca.org) or on GetYourGuide or Tiqets at €11. The ticket with terraces costs €25 on the official website, March to November and over-9s only. And remember the cathedral does not open for tourist visits on Sundays.

If you go to Drach on your own on the TIB 401 bus, the ticket alone costs €18.50 on the caves' website and is non-refundable. Headout's transfer saves you the bus; compare the total with the €54 on GetYourGuide or with Nofrills before deciding.

Where Headout does pay off: the east coast

Its most interesting tickets are not in Palma but on the east coast: the Hams caves from €18 and the Rafa Nadal Museum in Manacor at €20, the same as at the door. Both are close to the Drach caves, so you can combine them in one day. We cover it in day trips from Palma.

How to book and cancel on Headout

How to buy without surprises

  1. Note the advertised price and carry on to the last step: that is where the booking fee appears.
  2. Compare that total with the official website and with GetYourGuide or Tiqets.
  3. Read the listing's cancellation policy: it depends on the provider, not on Headout.
  4. If you might need a refund, check whether it is offered as money or as credit.

Headout's terms say you can only cancel when the provider allows it. If there is a refund, it arrives within 7 days of Headout receiving the money from the provider, and it may be paid as Headout credit, which cannot be exchanged for cash. If you are given the choice, ask for the refund to your card.

Alternatives to Headout

  • GetYourGuide: the cathedral at €11, free cancellation up to 24 h on most listings and far more boat trips. GetYourGuide review.
  • Tiqets: the cathedral at €11 and the Almudaina at €9.50. Tiqets review.
  • Buying direct: the cathedral, Hams, Nadal or Marineland cost the same or less at the ticket office. It is all in Palma tickets and the platform comparison.

If you are after the sightseeing bus, read our Palma hop-on hop-off bus guide first: all three sell the same bus at the same price.
