Nofrills Excursions: our review of the Alcúdia agency

Nofrills Excursions is an agency in Port d'Alcúdia that resells other operators' excursions, with competitive prices and free cancellation up to 24 hours before. It works better if you are staying in the north of Mallorca than in Palma.

Nofrills is a solid, honestly priced choice for coach excursions, especially from the north of the island; from Palma, its headline product, the Caves of Drach, costs the same as on GetYourGuide.

What Nofrills Excursions is and what it offers

Nofrills Excursions S.L. is an agency based in Port d'Alcúdia, founded in 2004. It has shops in Port d'Alcúdia, Port de Pollença and Can Picafort, and none in Palma. Its own legal terms make it clear: most of the excursions, visits and tours it sells are provided by other companies, and it acts as organiser only for some group bookings. In other words, you are buying from an agency that resells, not from the owner of the coach or the boat.

Its website, in English, Spanish, German and Polish, claims more than a million customers and thousands of excellent reviews; these are its own figures and nobody has audited them. Two details worth knowing: the legal page and the website footer show different agency licence numbers, and its registered address and licence number match those of Click-Mallorca, another Port d'Alcúdia agency. None of this is illegal, but it helps you understand who you are booking with.

Always type the address with "www": www.nofrills-excursions.com. The version without "www" redirects to a misspelt domain that does not load.

Prices: Caves of Drach and other excursions

Its most popular trip from Palma is the half-day trip to the Caves of Drach in Porto Cristo:

Excursion Pick-up Adult Child 3–12
Caves of Drach from Palma Central meeting point in Palma; free pick-up in some southern areas €54 €30
Caves of Drach half day (north) Northern hotels, depending on the day €51 €27.50
Afternoon express bus to the Caves of Drach Fixed stops in Port d'Alcúdia, Playa de Muro and Can Picafort €49 €29
Island Tour (coach, boat, tram and train) Northern areas €89 €45

The trip from Palma lasts about 5 hours, roughly 09:20 to 14:15, and includes skip-the-line entry, the concert, the lake crossing, an air-conditioned coach, an official guide and travel insurance. Lunch is not included. The afternoon express bus, new this season, has an English-speaking assistant rather than a full guide and makes no extra stops: interesting, but only if you are staying in the north. It also sells a half day on the Sóller train with the tram from €53 and a Formentor tour by bus and boat from €39.

GetYourGuide sells the Palma trip at the same price, €54; Headout lists it from €48.60, although it adds its service fee at checkout, and Civitatis at €59. Nofrills offers a price-match guarantee, so if you find the same excursion cheaper, ask. And if you use public transport, the TIB 401 bus plus the €18.50 official ticket works out much cheaper than any excursion.

What travellers say

In the reviews the agency publishes on its own listings, the same praise keeps coming up for the guides, named as friendly and multilingual, for punctuality and for organisation, and almost everyone singles out the concert on Lake Martel. On Google, its Port de Pollença shop had 4.5 out of 5 from 46 reviews when we checked.

The complaints repeat too: too many hours on the coach between hotel pick-ups (one traveller describes about two and a half hours before reaching the caves), caves packed with hundreds of people going in at once, too few boats to cross the lake, and chaotic pick-ups at shared stops. On the express bus, people criticise loud speakers and long announcements.

How to book and cancel

You book on the website or in its northern shops and pay by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal; prices include VAT. The confirmation email is your ticket, no QR code. The exact meeting point in Palma is emailed after booking; if you want pick-up in the south, write your hotel in the comments, because free pick-up only covers "certain areas".

The cancellation terms are reasonable:

  • Free up to 24 hours before. Within the last 24 hours there is no refund.
  • If you are late or do not show up, you lose the amount paid.
  • Light rain or cloudy skies do not count as grounds for cancellation.
  • If the excursion is cancelled for safety or weather reasons, you are offered another date or a full refund.

Compared with buying the ticket direct from the caves, which allows no changes or refunds (we explain this in our Caves of Drach review), that 24-hour margin is a real advantage.

Alternatives to Nofrills

  • Go on your own on the TIB 401 bus from Plaça d'Espanya with the official ticket: the cheapest option if you are staying in Palma. We walk you through it in Caves of Drach from Palma.
  • Platforms: GetYourGuide sells the same trip from Palma for €54, and Headout from €48.60 plus a service fee.
  • Other local agencies such as Click-Mallorca, with very similar cancellation terms.
