Barca Samba reviews in one sentence: it is a good party boat with a clear concept and reasonable cancellation terms, but its website gives prices and days that do not match from page to page, and it is not for everyone. It works for groups of friends and couples who want to dance at sea. It does not work if you want peace and quiet, use a wheelchair or expect a sunset swim outside the summer.

What Barca Samba offers

Barca Samba sells four trips, all from the Muelle de las Golondrinas:

  • Bahía de Palma Sail. At 11:00, 3 hours, from €39.90, with a stop in a marine reserve area. Pizza and water included; snorkelling gear can be hired on board or you can bring your own. This is the family trip. Note: one page of its website says it runs Thursday to Sunday and another Sunday to Thursday. Check the booking calendar.
  • Sail Experience. 4 hours in the afternoon (and in the morning on Fridays and Saturdays), with a buffet, a swim stop of more than an hour and a DJ. Its FAQ says it is designed for adults aged 25 to 50 and not recommended for children.
  • Sunset Experience. 19:00 to 22:00, from €49.90, over-18s only. Home-made pizza and water included, DJ, bar extra. The 45–60 minute swim stop only happens from June to August: in spring and autumn it is a cruise with music, no swim.
  • Palma by Night Exclusive. 22:30 to 01:30, from €39.90, over-18s only. Fridays and Saturdays, and daily in summer depending on the calendar. It is the only regular night trip for seeing Palma lit up from the sea.

All the trips cross the bay towards the Llucmajor coast. If you want to compare sunset trips, we do that, with sunset times, in sunset boat trips in Palma.

Barca Samba: price direct and on booking sites

Barca Samba's prices change with the date, and its website does not help. The Sail Experience is listed "from €69.90" on the tickets page and "from €59.90" on the home page, and the booking engine has shown €44.92. For the sunset and night trips there is no discrepancy: from €49.90 and from €39.90. Our advice: ignore the home page and check the price in the booking calendar on barcasamba.com.

On GetYourGuide, the sunset boat with DJ and dance floor starts at €44.91 depending on the day, rated 4.4 from more than 3,400 reviews. Barca Samba itself says its direct price and resellers' prices are the same. Remember that GetYourGuide's "reserve now, pay later" charges your card before the date. We look at the platform in our GetYourGuide review.

The boat: capacity, decks and accessibility

The boat measures 23.10 by 7 metres, cruises at about 9 knots and has two decks linked by steep stairs. On board there is an 18-metre bar (other company pages say 16), a 25 m² dance floor, three swimming ladders, four toilets and rain awnings over every deck.

Maximum capacity is 112 passengers, according to its FAQ (the technical sheet says 115). The figures of 200 people that circulate online are wrong. Boarding opens 20 minutes before departure and closes 5 minutes before.

There is no wheelchair access, pets are not allowed and luggage cannot be stored.

What travellers say

Barca Samba's home page shows a score of 4.9 from 6,904 reviews and Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice badge. On its tickets page, the Tripadvisor widget shows 4.4 from 315. Both are displayed by the operator itself; the GetYourGuide score (4.4 from more than 3,400 reviews) matches the lower one, which is the one we would go by.

A word on older reviews: some mention a free drink. That came from an old offer that is no longer sold. Current trips include pizza or a buffet and water, and everything else is paid for at the bar. The bar opens 15 minutes after departure and closes 15 minutes before returning.

How to book and cancel with Barca Samba

How to book without surprises

  1. Choose your trip in the barcasamba.com calendar and check that day's price, not the one on the home page.
  2. If you are booking for today or tomorrow, do it on its website: it warns that at the last minute resellers may show places that no longer exist.
  3. Get to the Muelle de las Golondrinas, opposite the Auditòrium, at least 20 minutes early. Boarding closes 5 minutes before departure and the ticket is lost.
  4. If your plans change, cancel more than 24 hours ahead to get your money back.

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. In bad weather, the skipper decides. You may not bring food or drink on board, or come in fancy dress: stag and hen groups are asked not to turn up in costume. More on groups in stag and hen parties in Mallorca.

Barca Samba leaves from central Palma, outside the Playa de Palma, S'Arenal and Magaluf zones, where party boats serving alcohol cannot pick up passengers or come within one nautical mile. More context in nightlife in Palma.
