If you are reading Magic Catamarans reviews, the short answer is that it is the Bay of Palma catamaran with the best balance between price and what is included: it is the only one of the big operators that serves soft drinks, sangria and wine without charging extra. Its downsides are small and well known: a deposit for the snorkelling masks, card-only payment on board (no American Express) and a fixed route along the Llucmajor coast.
Verdict
4.4/ 5
Clear, published prices, drinks included in the main trip and a GetYourGuide listing at 4.6 out of 5 from more than 12,400 reviews. We take points off for the extras you do not see when booking (snorkel deposit, no Amex on board) and because its website does not say which boat in the fleet sails from Palma. For a family, it is our first choice.

Who Magic Catamarans is
Magic Catamarans is a catamaran excursion company with an office on Palma's Paseo Marítimo (Av. Gabriel Roca 8) and registered as a tourism intermediary. As well as Palma, it sails from Colònia de Sant Jordi towards Es Trenc, and on the Costa Brava (Roses and Palamós); its booking system is called "Reservas Excursiones Marenostrum". Its official website is magic-catamarans.com, with a hyphen: the version without the hyphen does not work.
One point that confuses many people: Oasis Catamaran does not belong to Magic. It is a different company with its own boats, even though it boards at the same quay. Magic's fleet has several catamarans carrying between 12 and about 100 people, including the Freebird 50, advertised as 100% electric; the website does not say which one runs each trip in Palma.
What it offers: the four departures from Palma
All of them board at the Muelle de las Golondrinas, on the Paseo Marítimo opposite the Auditòrium, not at the Escala Real below the cathedral (see Palma's two quays).
Bahía de Palma (5 h). 10:00 to 15:00 or 15:30 to 20:30. First swim at Cova Verda, then Cala Vella with a barbecue cooked on board: skewers and chicken breast, sausages, salads, bread, sponge cake and watermelon. A vegetarian menu is available if you ask when booking or 24 h ahead. Soft drinks, juice, coffee and water all day; sangria and wine with the meal.
Bahía de Palma Plus (5 h). Same times, maximum 35 passengers. Swim and aperitif at Cap Rocat (Iberian ham, cured meats, cheese, Mallorcan bread and coca de trempó, the local vegetable flatbread) and a barbecue at Cala Vella. Paddleboarding and kayaks included.
Palma Sea Tapas (3 h 30). 15:30 to 19:00, with a 1 h 30 stop at Cala Vella: the longest swim stop for the price. Tapas, soft drinks and water; everything else from the bar. The page address says "ses-illetes", but the boat goes to Cala Vella.
Sunset Bahía (1 h 30). 19:30 to 21:00, with a sangria, cava or soft drink plus olives, crisps and nuts. No swim stop. Note: from early October the sun sets around 19:30 or earlier, so you are sailing almost in the dark. Comparison in sunset cruises.

The 5-hour catamaran costs €59 on its website and €59 on GetYourGuide: you save nothing by buying direct, but you do not pay extra on the booking site either. Civitatis sells a bay catamaran at the same price. On the sunset trip, a booking cannot include more free children than adults.
There is hotel pick-up by coach, from El Dorado to Palma and from Camp de Mar to Palma, for a supplement; the price is not on the website, so ask when you book.

What travellers say
The 5-hour catamaran's GetYourGuide listing has 4.6 out of 5 from more than 12,400 reviews, the most reviewed of all the Palma boat trips we compared. With that volume, the average is reliable. Before booking, read recent reviews from the season you are travelling in, and notice whether they mention the morning or the afternoon trip, because the afternoon coincides with the embat, the south-westerly breeze that whips up waves in the bay.

How to book and cancel
Booking on its website, you can cancel free of charge up to 24 h before. On GetYourGuide the usual rule is also 24 h; if you choose "reserve now, pay later", your card is charged 72 h before departure.
On board you can only pay by card, not American Express: bring another card for the mask deposit and extras. The skipper may change the route depending on the sea. For parking, Magic recommends the Marquès de la Sènia pay car park; the Paseo Marítimo is not a good place to circle looking for a space.
Our advice: book the 10:00 departure. The sea is calmer in the morning and you have the afternoon free in Palma.
Alternatives to Magic Catamarans
- Small group and paddleboarding: Oasis (maximum 22 to 55 people depending on the boat, €78–109), but drinks other than water cost extra.
- Cheaper, with a swim: Palma Cruises' Palma Boat Tour, 3 h for €27 online, or Sa Calma Boats' 2.5-hour snorkelling trip for €39.
- From S'Arenal: Life & Sea, a 2-hour catamaran for €40 or 4 hours with a barbecue for €65.
- Adult party: Barca Samba, over-18s only on sunset and night trips.
Every option in the bay is compared in boat trips in Palma. If you are travelling with children, see also Palma with kids.
Is Magic Catamarans worth it?
Yes, especially for families: for €59 you get 5 hours, two swim stops, a barbecue and drinks included, and children aged 0 to 6 go free. It is the only big catamaran in Palma that includes soft drinks, sangria and wine.
Where does Magic Catamarans leave from in Palma?
From the Muelle de las Golondrinas, on the Paseo Marítimo opposite the Auditòrium. It does not leave from the Escala Real below the cathedral.
What is included on the Magic Catamarans trip?
A barbecue with salads and dessert, soft drinks, juice, coffee and water all day, sangria and wine with the meal, and snorkelling masks with a €10 deposit.
Can you pay with American Express on board?
No. On board they only take cards, and not American Express.
Is Oasis Catamaran part of Magic Catamarans?
No. Oasis is a different company with its own boats, even though it boards at the same quay.
