Cruceros Costa de Calvià is a Magaluf company that has been running boats from the beaches of the Calvià coast for years. Many people know it as "Britannia Jet", after its big boat, although its best-selling trip (the glass-bottom one) uses a different vessel. Our verdict: fair prices and easy departures if you are staying in Magaluf or Palmanova, but its website is out of date and the name "Dolphin" is misleading.
Verdict
3.2/ 5
The €30 glass-bottom trip and the €20 ferry are good value, and boarding on your hotel's own beach is a real plus. Three things pull the score down: calling a trip that does not look for dolphins "Dolphin", a website with notices from past seasons that forces you to phone to confirm dates, and very few public reviews, and weak ones at that. To get to Palma, the TIB 104 bus is more flexible; to see dolphins, look at other operators.

What Cruceros Costa de Calvià offers
The company has three boats, and it pays to know which is which:
- Esmeralda Dos: a three-deck semi-submersible catamaran, with a sun terrace on top, a main deck with bar, toilet and seats by big windows, and an underwater viewing area. It runs the 2-hour trip the company sells as "Dolphin".
- Britannia Jet: the big boat. It runs the Day at Sea, with water slides, and the boat to Palma (Palma City).
- Limitless: a 30-seat speedboat to the Malgrats islets.
| Trip | Days and times | Duration | Adult / child |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glass-bottom "Dolphin" (Esmeralda Dos) | Daily 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 from Magaluf | 2 h | €30 / €20 |
| Day at Sea (Britannia Jet) | Wednesdays and Sundays, 11:10 from Magaluf, back 16:45 | about 5 h 30 min | €60 / €40 |
| Limitless speedboat to the Malgrats | Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, 12:00 and 15:00 from Magaluf | about 2 h | €40 / €30 |
| Palma City (Britannia Jet) | Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10:00 from Magaluf | full day | €32 / €22 |
| Ferry Palma → Magaluf | Daily 09:30 and 11:00 from Palma's Paseo Marítimo | — | €20 / €10 |
From Son Matias you board 10 minutes after Magaluf, and from Palmanova about 15 minutes after (20 minutes on the boat to Palma).
The "Dolphin" is not a dolphin trip
This is what confuses people most. The Esmeralda Dos follows the west coast of the Bay of Palma, past islets, coves and beaches, and the appeal is the underwater viewing area. "Dolphin" is a trading name, not a promise: the boat hugs the coast and does not go out looking for dolphins, so nobody guarantees you will see any.
If you want to see dolphins, the option from Calvià is the Palma Cruises pick-up coach, which stops in Magaluf and Palmanova and takes you to its 3-hour departure in Palma. We explain it in the guide to dolphins in Mallorca and in our Palma Cruises review.
Two tips for the glass-bottom boat: board at Magaluf, the first stop, to get a seat by the windows in the underwater area; and if you book through the Click-Mallorca agency, which sells the same trip at the same price (€30 / €20), children aged 3 to 10 pay the child fare there and under-3s go free. Click-Mallorca mentions a swim stop when the sea allows and ice creams sold on board. See our Click-Mallorca review.

The boat to Palma and the ferry: prices and times
Here is another common mix-up: there are two different services between Magaluf and Palma.
Palma City (from Magaluf, Tuesdays and Saturdays). The Britannia Jet leaves Magaluf at 10:00, Son Matias at 10:15 and Palmanova at 10:20, and drops you at around 11:30 at the Escala Real, opposite the Llotja, below the cathedral. Pick-up is at around 15:30 from the same spot, getting back to Calvià at about 16:15. It costs €32 adult and €22 child, return, and gives you about four hours in the city: enough for the cathedral and a walk round the old town. Careful on Saturdays: the cathedral closes to visitors at 14:15, so head straight there as soon as you land.
Ferry from Palma to Magaluf (daily). It leaves from Palma's Paseo Marítimo, opposite the Auditòrium, at 09:30 and 11:00, and returns from Magaluf at 17:00 or 18:00 depending on the boat. €20 adult and €10 child. It is the cheapest way to try a boat across the bay if you are staying in Palma, though it only works in that direction.
The bus is more flexible
If you just want to get from Magaluf to Palma, the TIB 104 bus runs every 15 minutes every day and the last one from Magaluf is at 23:20. The boat to Palma is worth it for the trip itself and for landing below the cathedral, not for the timetable.

What travellers say
There are very few public reviews of the company: in a Mallorca directory, its Google listing showed 2.9 out of 5 from just 13 reviews. That is too few to draw conclusions, but it is not a good sign. The same directory warns that dolphins are not guaranteed on the "Dolphin" because the boat follows the coast.
Our advice: before booking, phone and ask whether the trip you want is running that day. Its website still shows notices and dates from previous seasons and does not publish the current season's dates.
