Palma Cruises: our take on its dolphin trips and bay cruises

Palma Cruises is the cheapest and most central way to see dolphins or swim in the bay, especially if you book on its own website. Its weak spot is cancellation: within 3 days you lose 20 %.

Palma Cruises runs boat trips from central Palma: dolphin watching, a three-hour cruise with a swim, a full day at sea and a sunset sailing. The brand belongs to Tramontana SL, a Peguera company that claims more than 70 years of experience. Our verdict in one sentence: good prices and a handy departure point, with a tougher cancellation policy than usual.

What Palma Cruises offers

Every trip boards at the Muelle de las Golondrinas on the Paseo Marítimo (Av. Gabriel Roca), opposite the Auditòrium de Palma. Do not confuse this pier with the Escala Real below the cathedral: they are 1.5 km apart.

  • Dolphin Watch (3 h): looking for bottlenose and striped dolphins, sometimes common dolphins too. One morning and one early-afternoon departure, a swim and snorkel stop if the sea allows, an underwater viewing deck and a digital audio guide on your own phone (bring earphones). We cover it in depth in our guide to dolphin watching.
  • Palma Boat Tour (3 h): a cruise round the bay with one swim stop, departing at 11:00 and 14:00.
  • Day at Sea (5 h): departs at 11:00 with two swim stops.
  • Sunset (19:00): on a catamaran. Compare it with the other options in our guide to sunset cruises.

On board there is a bar selling food and drinks, including vegan options. The route is set each morning according to the sea and may change if the weather demands it.

Prices: direct, at the pier or on a platform

Palma Cruises has two fares depending on how you get to the boat, and its website takes 10 % off both:

Trip At the pier With transfer Online on its website
Dolphin Watch, adult €55 €65 €49.50 / €58.50
Dolphin Watch, child €35 €45 same 10 % off
Dolphin Watch, senior €45 €55 same 10 % off
Palma Boat Tour, adult €30 (child €15) — €27
Day at Sea, adult €55 €65 from €49.50

Infants pay €15 on the dolphin trip. The sunset cruise is advertised at €45, but the booking system has shown other figures (€30 without transfer, €60 with transfer): check the final price before you pay.

On the platforms, the dolphin trip costs from €55 on GetYourGuide, which is the pier price without the online discount. Tiqets has a 3-hour dolphin trip in Palma from €55, although the listing does not say which company runs it. If a platform listing gives a different duration, go by the 3 hours the operator advertises.

What travellers say

Palma Cruises' dolphin trip was rated 4.4 out of 5 from 395 reviews on GetYourGuide when we checked. The Tiqets departure, at 4.4 from just 9 reviews, is too thin to judge.

Its own website shows only three hand-picked testimonials, all five stars, so they are no use as a guide. The same goes for the 90 % sighting rate it advertises: that is its own figure, and the company admits it cannot guarantee dolphins 100 %. Remember too that dolphins are wild animals and Spanish law (Royal Decree 1727/2007) forbids any boat from approaching closer than 60 m or chasing them: a good operator will not do it.

How to book and cancel

You book on palmacruises.com, which uses an external ticketing system with card payment. The booking must be made by someone over 18. At checkout you choose whether to go straight to the pier or take the coach:

  • Calvià route: starts in Camp de Mar at 08:15 and picks up in Peguera, Santa Ponsa, Magaluf, Palmanova, Portals Nous, Illetes and Cala Major as far as Club de Mar. For afternoon departures it starts at 11:45.
  • Arenal route: starts at El Dorado/Tolleric at 09:00 and runs through S'Arenal and Playa de Palma to Can Pastilla.

The website lists dolphin departures at 10:00 and 14:00, but its booking system has shown the morning one at 10:30, with boarding at 10:15. The time on your ticket is the one that counts.

The booking terms are the tricky part:

  • Cancel more than 3 days before and you get 100 % back.
  • Within 3 days, they keep 20 %.
  • With a medical certificate, full refund.

That is stricter than the 24 hours that is usual in the bay. If you book on a platform, that listing's policy applies and may be more flexible: compare before you pay. Special departures, such as the August solar eclipse trip, were sold non-refundable.

Alternatives to Palma Cruises

  • Life & Sea: the other company looking for dolphins in the bay, from S'Arenal and Can Pastilla, at €80, with a sunrise departure and free cancellation up to 24 h before. Read our Life & Sea review.
  • Magic Catamarans: if you want a catamaran day with food and drinks included from the same pier. Magic Catamarans review.
  • Sa Calma Boats and its city boat Marco Polo: 55 minutes without a swim for €19, from the Escala Real. Sa Calma Boats review.
  • Cruceros Costa de Calvià: its "Dolphin" boat from Magaluf has a glass bottom, but it is not a dolphin-watching trip. We explain it here.

To compare every boat on the Paseo Marítimo, see our guide to boat trips in Palma. If you arrive on a cruise ship, the 14:00 departure usually fits after a morning ashore: we cover it in the cruise port guide.
