Palma Aquarium is the classic plan for rain, heat and children in Palma de Mallorca: it opens 365 days a year, almost all of it is indoors and its star is the Big Blue, one of the deepest shark tanks in Europe (8.5 metres). General admission costs €30.50, the same on the official website as on GetYourGuide or Tiqets, so the question isn't where it's cheapest but which time slot you choose and what change conditions you want.

It's in Playa de Palma, next to Can Pastilla, 10 minutes by car from the centre. Without a car, the EMT 35 leaves from Plaça de la Reina, at the foot of the cathedral, and terminates at the door.

What to see at Palma Aquarium: the seven habitats

The route is divided into seven zones. Allow at least two hours; with small children and a stop at the play area, half a day.

  • Big Blue: the large tank, 33 × 25 metres and 8.5 deep, with more than 3 million litres of seawater. It's home to 10 sharks (sand tiger, sandbar and nurse) and around a thousand animals of other species. It's what everyone comes to see, and it's worth sitting in front of the glass for a while.
  • Tropical Seas: corals of 275 species. The aquarium is known for coral breeding, and it shows here.
  • Mediterranean: what lives underwater a few metres off the beaches you'll be on that same afternoon.
  • Mediterranean Gardens: an outdoor area with plants, good for stretching your legs in fine weather.
  • Jungle: a covered rainforest with a 7-metre waterfall. If it's raining, it's the most welcome corner.
  • Whales and Jellyfish: the illuminated jellyfish are usually the photo moment.

General admission also includes the "Som de la Mar" family activities, the workshops, the Art Aquarium room and Ocean Play, an indoor play area open from 11:30 to 17:00. There's also an outdoor playground.

Palma Aquarium ticket prices: official rates

These are the official website's prices, the same online and on its price list:

Ticket Visitor Balearic resident
Adult €30.50 €20
Child aged 3 to 12 €19.50 €13
Over 65 €27 €17
Ages 0 to 2 free free

A family of two adults and two children aged 3 to 12 pays €100. Note: unlike many of Palma's monuments, children pay here from age 3.

Current ways to pay less:

  • Cheaper afternoons: visits from 14:00 get 15% off (from €26) on the official website, valid until 31 October. Check at palmaaquarium.com whether it's renewed after that.
  • Ticket + Aquadome 3D cinema: from €34. It's a 360° projection dome; the current film is about whales.
  • Ocean Pass (annual): €62 adult, €47 child, €207 for a family of 2 + 2. It also gives 20% off tickets for up to four companions and 15% off in the restaurants, shop and experiences.
  • Balearic residents: pay a third less. Bring proof of residence.

If you're looking for a 2-for-1, the discounts the official website publishes are the ones on this list: the afternoon offer, the annual pass and free entry for a companion with the shark dive (see below).

Tickets: official website, GetYourGuide or Tiqets

General admission costs the same everywhere: €30.50 on the official website, on GetYourGuide and on Tiqets. Today the comparison looks like this:

Adult price, checked on 6 October 2026. Platforms change prices daily: confirm before you pay.

So where should you buy? It depends on two things:

  • If you're going in the afternoon, buy on the official website. The 15% discount from 14:00 is only available there and is the cheapest option until 31 October.
  • If you want to be able to cancel, check the platform listing. The official website doesn't explain its refund conditions clearly. On GetYourGuide the general rule is a full refund if you cancel more than 24 hours ahead, unless the listing says otherwise; on Tiqets, only if the listing allows it. With a family trip and rain or a temperature in the forecast, that flexibility is worth something.
  • If you're staying far from Palma, tickets with transfer save you the bus hassle: ticket with transfer from €34.50 on GetYourGuide, or on Tiqets from the Calvià area (€34.50) and from the north, the east or Cala Ratjada (€49.50).

Tickets have a time slot: the ticket is valid for 30 minutes from the time you choose. On rainy days it's the obvious plan for half of Palma: book your slot a day ahead.

Palma Aquarium opening times and the best time to go

It opens every day of the year, 09:30 to 18:30, with no separate winter timetable. Last entry is at 17:00.

  • First thing (09:30–11:00): the Big Blue with fewer people, ideal with small children before they tire. Ocean Play doesn't open until 11:30, so leave it for the end.
  • Afternoon (from 14:00): cheaper on the official website until 31 October and a bit quieter. Arrive before 15:00 to have two full hours.

It's a good card to play on a Monday, when Bellver, the Almudaina, Es Baluard and the Fundació Miró close, and on a rainy Sunday, with the cathedral closed to sightseeing. More ideas in what to do in Palma when it rains.

The aquarium is at Carrer Manuela de los Herreros i Sorà 21, in the Balneario 15 area of Playa de Palma, next to Can Pastilla.

Getting there by bus from the centre

  1. Go to Plaça de la Reina, at the foot of the cathedral and the end of the Passeig del Born.
  2. Board the EMT 35. Pay by contactless bank card (the cheapest fare) or €2 in cash.
  3. The bus follows the coast: Es Portitxol, Es Molinar, Ciutat Jardí, Cala Estància and Can Pastilla.
  4. Get off at the last stop: it's the aquarium.

On the autumn and winter timetable the 35 runs roughly every 10 minutes Monday to Friday and every 12 at weekends. The aquarium's website talks about 20 minutes by bus from Palma; the full ride on the 35 from the cathedral, stop by stop along the coast, is closer to 40–50 minutes. Allow plenty of time if you've booked a slot. Under-5s travel free with an adult. Timetables and stops at emtpalma.cat.

  • By car: about 10 minutes from the centre and 5 from the airport. There's free outdoor parking and a paid underground car park with €3 off for visitors.
  • By bike: about 40 minutes from the centre, according to the aquarium itself.
  • From hotels in Playa de Palma: the EMT 25 runs the whole beachfront to the cathedral, and the EMT 23 goes from Plaça d'Espanya to S'Arenal.

Diving with sharks and other experiences

Book the shark divefrom €210Affiliate link: if you book, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

The most sought-after experience is diving inside the Big Blue:

  • Without a diving qualification: €210 on the official website, down to 6 metres.
  • With a qualification: €186, down to the 8.5-metre bottom.
  • Over-18s only. You need a diving medical certificate from the last 12 months, which isn't included. You can't dive within 12 hours before or after a flight.
  • It lasts about an hour and a half and includes a briefing, equipment, insurance and an instructor (in Spanish, English, German or French).
  • It includes aquarium entry for the diver and one companion, about €30.50 saved.
  • It depends on the weather and the animals' condition, and there's no refund if you don't meet the conditions.

GetYourGuide and Tiqets also sell it at €210. The classic mistake is booking it for a teenager or turning up without the medical certificate: either way you're left out with no refund. If open-water diving is what interests you, see our guide to diving near Palma.

Other paid experiences:

  • Sleeping with sharks: €54 per child, ages 6 to 12 only and without parents. Check-in at 19:30 and departure at 11:00 the next day, with dinner, breakfast, games and a night visit to the Big Blue and the Jungle. Bring pyjamas and a sleeping bag; a consent form signed by the parents is required. The next dates haven't been published yet.
  • Shark Vision Boat, Backstage Tour and virtual reality: paid separately; you see the price when booking.

Palma Aquarium with kids: the practical bits

  • Pushchairs and wheelchairs: almost the whole route is on one level, but the official website doesn't give accessibility details. If it's essential, ask the aquarium first (+34 971 746 104).
  • Eating: there are four places to eat (Mediterra, Jellyfish Rest Bar, Cantina and Oasis), open roughly 11:00 to 17:00.
  • Lockers: at the entrance, and card only.
  • Ideal age: 3 to 10-year-olds love it; under-3s get in free.

For a full day without a car, combine the aquarium with the Blue Flag beach at Ciutat Jardí, on the same 35 line. Go through all the options in Palma's beaches and the other family plans in Palma with kids.

Is Palma Aquarium worth it?

Pros

  • Open 365 days and almost all indoors: it rescues a rainy or scorching day.
  • The Big Blue is genuinely impressive, for adults too.
  • Indoor play area included in the ticket.
  • Direct bus from the cathedral and free outdoor parking.

Cons

  • €100 for a family of four; children pay from age 3.
  • On rainy days it fills up with families.
  • No dolphins, though many expect them.
  • Far from the old town: half a day with the journey there, the visit and the way back.

Our view: yes, it's worth it with children aged 3 to 12 and on rainy or very hot days. If you're a couple short on time, the cathedral, the old town and an afternoon on a boat give you more Mallorca for the same money: see things to see in Palma. If you go, go in the afternoon with an official website ticket while the discount lasts.
