If you are looking for parasailing in Palma de Mallorca, bear in mind that the city beaches (Can Pere Antoni, Ciutat Jardí, Portixol) have none. You fly from S'Arenal beach, at the far end of Playa de Palma, or from Magaluf. For paddling, on the other hand, you do not need to go far: Can Pastilla hires out boards and kayaks at beach-bar prices. Here are the spots, the prices, the ages and the limits that never make it into the advert photo.

S'Arenal, with Life & Sea

The easiest parasailing to book from Palma is with Life & Sea, on S'Arenal beach, next to Club Nàutic S'Arenal:

  • €65 per person. You fly for about 10 minutes at around 50 metres; with the boat ride, the trip lasts close to an hour.
  • Departures every hour from 11:00 to 20:00 (advertised summer hours).
  • You fly in pairs or groups of three under the same parachute. There are no solo flights.
  • A companion who is not flying can come on the boat for €25. Photos (on an SD card) cost another €25.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 h before.

Details on the operator's website: https://www.lifeandsea.com/en/activity/13406

To get there, EMT 25 runs from the cathedral along the whole of Playa de Palma to S'Arenal (35 to 50 minutes), and from the airport EMT A2 stops at s'Arenal Club Nàutic.

Magaluf, on the beach

On Magaluf beach, Watersports Mallorca Jet Ski offers 8 to 10 minutes of parasailing alongside jet skis, banana boat and speedboat rides. It opens from 12:00 to 16:30 and does not publish prices: ask there, and ask about the minimum age too. If the sea is rough, it cancels at short notice. From Palma, take TIB 104, every 15 minutes.

Parasailing age, weight and requirements

Requirement S'Arenal (Life & Sea)
Minimum age 10, with a responsible adult
Able to swim Compulsory
People per canopy 2 or 3
Weight Resellers of the same flight state a minimum of 25 kg and a maximum of 250 kg combined for everyone under the canopy
On board No phones, glasses or jewellery: there are lockers

Weight is what raises the most questions. The operator's website gives no limit, but the agencies selling this same flight mention a 25 kg minimum and 250 kg in total under the canopy. If three adults are going, add up your weights and ask before you pay.

On the booking platforms, the flight in the Bay of Palma costs from €65, the same price as booking direct:

Banana boat, flyboard and other toys

At S'Arenal you can also try shorter things:

  • Banana boat (Life & Sea, S'Arenal): €14 for 10 minutes. The cheapest option for a group.
  • Flyboard at El Arenal: 15 minutes from €65.
  • Flyboard at Port Calanova (west of Palma): 15–20 minutes from €65, from age 9 and able to swim.

If you want an engine and speed, see the guide to jet skis and speedboats: an hour on a speedboat costs €40 and you do not need to swim.

Paddle board and kayak hire in Palma: where and prices

Stand-up paddleboards (SUP) and kayaks need no qualification at all. They count as "beach craft": you can use them in daylight only, no more than 2 miles from where you set off and, to go out on your own, you must be 18 or over. The October change requiring a qualification to rent motor boats does not affect them (I explain it in boat rental).

Where What Price
El Niño Surf Center, C/ Vaixell 2, Can Pastilla SUP €15 an hour, €45 a day
El Niño Surf Center Single / double kayak €15 / €25 an hour
El Niño Surf Center Windsurf / wing foil / eFoil €45 / €55 / €250 an hour
ZOEA, Club Nàutic Santa Ponsa SUP / kayak hire €16–40 / €16–66
ZOEA, Santa Ponsa Kayak trip / snorkelling trip €60 / €60

Can Pastilla is the cheapest option near Palma: El Niño has been renting boards for more than two decades and runs group SUP and surf lessons from about €25–50 per person. Prices at https://elninomallorca.com/en/1006-lessons-hire

In the centre, Rental Service Mallorca (Carrer del 31 de Desembre 3) hires out SUP boards and kayaks, open Monday to Friday 09:30 to 19:00 and Saturdays 10:00 to 18:00; closed on Sundays. It does not publish prices.

How to get to Can Pastilla from the centre

  1. Take EMT 35 from the cathedral area: it is the eastern beaches line (Portixol, Molinar, Ciutat Jardí, Cala Estància, Can Pastilla).
  2. Pay with a contactless bank card: it is the cheapest fare for visitors.
  3. Get off at Can Pastilla and walk to Carrer Vaixell.
  4. Paddle early: the water in the bay is usually flatter in the morning.

SUP and kayak included on a boat trip

Another way to paddle is on a trip that already carries them on board. The Magic Catamarans Plus trip includes SUP and kayak (€74); Sa Calma Boats has a 3-hour trip to the marine reserve, with sea caves, cliffs, paddleboarding and snorkelling for €39. More options in boat trips.

Snorkelling in Palma de Mallorca: free and no paperwork

In the Bay of Palma Marine Reserve (from S'Arenal to Cap de Regana, including Cap Enderrocat, Cala Blava and Cala Vella) you can snorkel freely throughout the reserve. The only condition: do not carry anything that could be used for fishing, whether a speargun, a net or a catch bag. Official rules: https://caib.es/sites/reservesmarines/ca/regulacio_dactivitats-854/

The best spots near Palma:

  • Cala Blava, Cala Vella and Cap Rocat: inside the bay reserve, where almost every boat stops.
  • Illetes, to the west: Life & Sea runs a 3-hour trip with snorkelling (€45, children €30).
  • Malgrats islands, off Santa Ponsa: part of the Ponent islands marine reserve. The Cruceros Costa de Calvià speedboat stops there (€40).
  • Sa Dragonera, off Sant Elm: a marine reserve with a 10-knot limit for all boats.

If you would rather not organise it yourself, there are snorkelling boat trips: the Life & Sea Snorkel Tour, 2 hours, €40; its "Superman" boat, 2 hours, €33 with gear included; and the Barca Samba sailing trip from Thursday to Sunday for €39.90, with gear hire on board.

With children: which activity at which age

  • From 9: flyboard at Port Calanova.
  • From 10: parasailing at S'Arenal (with an adult and able to swim).
  • For a quiet swim: Cala Estància, Ciutat Jardí and Cala Major are the three Palma beaches with a Blue Flag. More in Palma beaches.
