Who to book with in Palma: platforms, boat operators and official ticket offices

Read enough Palma tours reviews and compare enough prices and you reach the same conclusion: the big platforms charge the same as the operator on the best-selling boats, and the official website wins on discounted tickets and the caves. What really changes from one to the next is cancellation.

Before you dig into Palma tours reviews, decide where to pay: on a platform (GetYourGuide, Tiqets, Headout, Viator, Civitatis), to the company that actually runs the trip (the boat operator, the coach agency) or at the monument's official ticket office. We have reviewed every one that sells in Palma, one by one: who is behind it, what it charges against buying direct, what travellers say and how cancellation works. This page sums up what we learned and takes you to each review.

The short rule: for boats and excursions, the platform usually costs the same and gives you free cancellation up to 24 hours before; for monuments and caves, the official website is the same price or cheaper, but it almost never refunds.

Platform, operator or ticket office: what changes

All three routes often sell the same trip, on the same boat, with the same guide. The difference is everything around it:

  • Platform: you compare lots of options on one website, pay in your own language and get a cancellation policy you know. The catch: if something goes wrong, you are dealing with a middleman.
  • Operator direct: you know exactly who is taking you and sometimes pay less, but every company has its own rules, and some are stricter than the platforms.
  • Official ticket office or website: the only way to get the resident, child and disability discounts at some monuments, and sometimes the lowest price. It almost never refunds.

Comparing excursion platforms in Palma

These are the platforms selling excursions and tickets in Palma de Mallorca. The Trustpilot scores are the ones we saw when we checked.

Platform Based in Trustpilot Strong in Palma for Watch out for
GetYourGuide Berlin 3.9 (about 56,600) Boats, catamarans, tours, cathedral "Reserve now, pay later" charges your card 72 h before
Tiqets Amsterdam 4.3 (about 62,000) Cathedral, aquarium, Almudaina, Miró; about 45 products in Mallorca Only cancellable if the listing says so
Headout New York 4.4 (about 64,000) Cathedral with terraces, Hams, Nadal Museum, Marineland Adds a service fee at checkout; refunds sometimes as credit
Viator Tripadvisor 4.4 (about 332,000) Excursions in general "All Sales Final" listings are non-refundable
Civitatis Madrid 4.5 (about 195,000) About 47 activities, all in Spanish A trip that runs in bad weather counts as delivered
Click-Mallorca Port d'Alcúdia 3.8 (27) Northern excursions; Palma boat trip at €19 Full payment on booking; cancellation by email
sunbonoo Palma 4.1 (59) Excursions in German Complaints about listings and meeting points

GetYourGuide is the most used in Palma and has the most listings around the bay. Tiqets is the best choice for museums and monuments. Headout is stronger than it looks: it sells well beyond the sightseeing bus, especially tickets outside Palma. Civitatis is the easy option if you want everything in Spanish.

When the platform costs the same as the ticket office

On Palma's two best-selling tickets, the gap is small. At the cathedral, the official ticket costs €10 (check it on catedraldemallorca.org) and the platforms charge from €11; what you will not find online are the discounts for residents, children up to 9 and people with disabilities, which only apply at the ticket desk. With an online ticket you use the fast lane at the Portal del Mirador.

Boat operators and excursion companies

Around the Bay of Palma, many of the platforms' excursions are run by a handful of boat companies. Booking direct with them is sometimes the same price, sometimes cheaper and sometimes comes with worse cancellation terms:

  • Magic Catamarans: day catamaran with lunch at €59, the same price as on the platforms, and a 90-minute sunset trip at €20. Boards at the Muelle de las Golondrinas.
  • Sa Calma Boats: the same company as the Marco Polo city boat (also called Mallorca City Boat). A 55-minute trip at €19 from the Escala Real, below the cathedral, and a snorkelling trip at €39.
  • Palma Cruises: dolphin trips from the Paseo Marítimo, 10% cheaper on its own website; but cancel less than 3 days before and they keep 20%.
  • Life & Sea: catamarans, dolphins and Cabrera from S'Arenal and Can Pastilla. Charges 2.5% for paying by card online.
  • Barca Samba: party boat for up to 112 people; the afternoon and evening trips are over-18s only. The price changes with the date.
  • Cruceros Costa de Calvià: the Esmeralda Dos glass-bottom boat and the Britannia Jet, from Magaluf and Palmanova.
  • Nofrills Excursions: agency based in Port d'Alcúdia; from Palma it sells the Drach excursion at €54 with coach.
  • City Sightseeing: Palma's only sightseeing bus; its boat is the same Marco Polo run by Sa Calma, cheaper if you buy direct.

Official ticket offices: when to buy direct

For some visits the official website is the best option, or the only one that makes sense:

  • Drach caves: €18.50 online against €19.50 at the ticket office, with a guaranteed time slot (official prices). No phone bookings and no refunds. If you go by bus (TIB 401), pick a time with some margin.
  • Sóller train: according to its timetable and fares, €23 one way and €30 return; online they only sell the train-plus-tram ticket; the train-only ticket is bought at the station on the day. No refunds; changes up to 09:00 on the day of travel.
  • Mallorca Cathedral: non-refundable ticket; discounts only at the ticket desk.
  • Palma Aquarium: open every day of the year and cheaper in the afternoon on its website.
  • Hammam Al Ándalus: changes and cancellations need 48 hours' notice, not 24.
  • Tablao Flamenco Alma: free cancellation up to 24 hours before; the tapas menus are paid separately from the show.
  • EMT and TIB buses and the train: there is no tourist card worth buying; your contactless bank card is the cheapest ticket.

For Drach, the gap between going on your own and taking an excursion is big: the ticket costs €18.50 and the coach excursion from Palma from about €49.

Cathedral, Drach, Sóller train No Non-refundable tickets

Shore excursions from your cruise

If you arrive by cruise ship and are looking for a shore excursion on Viator, GetYourGuide or with the cruise line itself, bear in mind that the terminal is about 3 km from the cathedral as the crow flies and that EMT bus 1 takes you into the centre. Plenty of sights are easy on your own in a few hours: the cathedral, the Almudaina, the old town and a city boat trip below the cathedral. To choose calmly, see our guide to the Palma cruise port and the one on excursions from Palma.

FAQ

Is GetYourGuide reliable in Palma de Mallorca?

Yes. It is a German company based in Berlin and the platform with the most excursions in Palma. It had 3.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot from about 56,600 reviews when we checked; complaints are mostly about cancellations by the provider and unclear meeting points.

Is it cheaper to book Palma excursions directly with the operator?

Sometimes. The best-selling catamarans and boats cost the same on the platform and with the boat company. Direct is cheaper for the Drach caves (online ticket), Palma Cruises dolphin trips (10% less on its website) and the aquarium in the afternoon.

Which platform is best for Palma Cathedral?

GetYourGuide and Tiqets sell it from €11, and the official website from €10. If you qualify for a discount (residents, children, disability), buy at the ticket desk, because it does not apply online.

Can I cancel an excursion in Palma if the weather is bad?

If the company cancels because of the sea or wind, you are offered another date or a refund. If it runs in bad weather and you do not turn up, you normally lose the money. Cancel within the free window if the forecast looks bad.

Which Palma tours reviews can I trust most?

The ones with lots of reviews. A 4.5 from thousands of travellers tells you more than a 5 from twenty. Also look at what keeps coming up in the complaints: delays, meeting point, food or cancellations.
