Hammam Al Ándalus Palma is the place if you want a hammam in Palma to actually bathe in: an Andalusian-style spa on Carrer Costa i Llobera with cold, warm and hot pools, a steam room and massage cabins. It has nothing to do with the Banys Àrabs (Arab Baths) in the old town, a 10th–11th-century monument with no water and no bathing for anyone. Here you book a slot, put on your swimsuit and get an hour and a half of heat, quiet and mint tea.

What confuses people most is the price: the spa does not publish a fixed rate. It changes with the day and the time, and you only see it when you pick a session on its booking site. On GetYourGuide and Tiqets the cheapest package costs from €68 and always includes a massage. Below I explain when each route makes sense.

Hammam or Banys Àrabs: not the same place

It is the most common mix-up in Palma, and it is not your fault: both are advertised as "Arab baths".

Hammam Al Ándalus Banys Àrabs
What it is Modern working spa Monument from the Islamic period (10th–11th century)

Price Varies; from €68 with massage on booking sites €3.50, cash only

If history is your thing (a square domed room on twelve columns, in a garden with palms and orange trees), a visit to the Banys Àrabs and the old town costs €3.50 and fits into any walk around the Cathedral area. If you want to sink into hot water, this spa is the one. Plenty of people do both on the same day: history in the morning, the bath as evening falls.

How a session at the Palma hammam works

Each session lasts 90 minutes in total. If you book bath with massage, the massage happens within those 90 minutes; it is not added at the end. And the rules are clear: the clock starts at your booked time, so if you arrive late, you lose those minutes.

The circuit is the classic Arab-bath sequence:

  • Pools at three temperatures: warm, hot and cold, to alternate between.
  • Steam room.
  • Relaxation areas with mint tea and water as much as you like.
  • Massage cabins, on another floor reached by stairs.

Towel, locker, shampoo, shower gel and hairdryer are included. The baths are mixed, and silence is part of the rules: speak quietly or not at all.

Your visit, step by step

  1. Arrive with time to spare before your slot, swimsuit in your bag: the clock runs from your booked time.
  2. Change in the changing room (shoes stay there) and shower before going in.
  3. Tie long hair back; no swimming cap needed.
  4. Move between pools and steam at your own pace; if you booked a massage, it happens within the same session.
  5. Finish in the relaxation area with tea; after 90 minutes the session ends.

Hammam opening hours: sessions start every two hours

The booking system opens slots at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, 20:00 and 22:00. There is no walk-in entry and no odd start times: you choose one of those slots and book it.

Some directories list different opening hours, closing at 21:30 or 23:30 depending on the day. Do not rely on them: what counts is the slot the official site lets you book.

Palma hammam prices: what you pay and where

The hammam has no fixed price list. Its booking engine uses rates that change by date and time slot, and the amount appears once you choose day, time and treatment. Prices include VAT.

What you can compare with real figures:

  • Booking sites: GetYourGuide and Tiqets sell the session with massage from €68 per person. Civitatis also sells it from €68 with bath and a 15-minute massage.
  • Bath only: the cheapest way in (the EMERGE programme, bath without massage) is sold only on the official website. The booking sites do not offer it.
  • Vouchers and gifts: there are gift cards (as a PDF or a physical card at reception) and a five-treatment pass with 20 % off for repeat visitors.

Today GetYourGuide and Tiqets are level at €68. The difference lies elsewhere: the GetYourGuide listing has more than a thousand reviews averaging 4.8, while Tiqets still has very few. If you want the bath only, without massage, go straight to the hammam's website and check the slot you want; for a package with massage, the booking site gives you a fixed price up front.

Programmes: bath, massage and rituals

The official menu lists several programmes. The names can be confusing, so here is what each one is:

Programme What it includes
EMERGE Bath only (the "water journey")
MIMMA Bath + massage with essential oils, 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes
MIDRA Bath + exfoliation on the hot stone + massage
JAZZAR Skin purification ritual with kessa (traditional exfoliating mitt)
ZAHRAWI Facial massage
NAFIRI Circulation programme: massage + bath + relaxation

In autumn the menu also adds a seasonal ritual. Remember that whatever programme you choose, the session lasts 90 minutes: with a 60-minute massage you have less time for the pools. For a first visit, bath with a 15- or 30-minute massage is the most sensible balance.

Rules: swimwear, photos and minimum age

The hammam's rules are strict and worth reading before you go:

  • Swimsuit or bikini compulsory. Underwear is not allowed. Reception sells swimwear and latex flip-flops, but at a higher price than any shop: bring your own.
  • Shower before going in and tie long hair back.
  • Shoes only in the changing room; inside you go barefoot.
  • No photos or videos. Recording devices may not be used.
  • Silence: it is part of the experience and of the rules.
  • Pregnancy: you can go, with precautions; avoid the steam room and the hot–cold contrasts.
  • Minimum age: the booking sites say children under 5 are not admitted. The official website does not specify, so if you are travelling with young children, ask before booking.

Getting to the hammam and what is nearby

The hammam is at Carrer Costa i Llobera 20, next to El Corte Inglés. From Plaça d'Espanya and the centre it is easy to reach on foot or by taxi; check the exact route on the map before setting off, because the street is small and easy to walk past.

If you are driving, the area has ORA regulated parking (blue zone), and you can also use the El Corte Inglés car park. Bear in mind that the old town has restricted-access zones with cameras: do not drive a hire car in without knowing your route.

When to go: rainy days, couples and tired travellers

The hammam does not depend on the weather and is one of the few things in Palma that gets better in the rain. That is exactly why it fills up on rainy days: book two or three days ahead, more if it coincides with public holidays. Our rainy-day Palma guide has the rest of the indoor options.

For couples it is one of the easiest plans in the city: an evening session, a massage and then dinner in the centre. It fits with what we cover in Palma for couples, and pairs well with a flamenco show at 21:30 if you book the 18:00 session.

Pros

  • Fixed 90-minute session: you know exactly how long it takes
  • Towel, locker, shower products and tea included
  • Works just as well in winter and in the rain
  • Last session at 22:00

Cons

  • No public price: you have to go into the booking site to see it
  • 48 h cancellation when booking direct, stricter than usual
  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Small changing rooms, according to some visitors

Booking direct or through a booking site

Both routes lead to the same hammam. What changes is the product and the terms.

My advice: if you only want the water circuit, buy direct on the hammam's website. If you want bath with massage and prefer a more flexible cancellation window, the GetYourGuide session costs the same as on Tiqets and has far more reviews. If you are torn between the official site and a booking site, our Hammam Al Ándalus review looks at how direct booking works, and our reviews of GetYourGuide and Tiqets explain how those platforms operate.
