Who the Ferrocarril de Sóller is

It is a private limited company with its own shareholders, not a public company or part of the TIB bus and rail network. It was founded on 5 November 1905 with the backing of Sóller's residents; the line opened on 16 April 1912 and was electrified in 1929. The tram from Sóller to the port opened on 4 October 1913 and was the first electric tram on Mallorca.

It runs the line under a concession, extended in 2005 for 50 years until 2055, with investment commitments. The line is 27.3 km long and single-track, and trains pass each other at Bunyola. Its Palma station is next to Plaça d'Espanya, separate from the Estació Intermodal, and its tickets are not part of the TIB fare system.

What it sells and what it costs bought direct

The company sells two products: the Palma – Sóller train (stopping at Bunyola) and the Sóller – Port de Sóller tram.

Ticket Official price Where to buy
Palma – Sóller, single €23 Ticket office, on the day
Palma – Sóller, return €30 Ticket office, on the day
Palma – Bunyola / Bunyola – Sóller €11 single · €19 return Ticket office, on the day
Tram Sóller – Port de Sóller €10 per journey On board
Train + tram return €40 Ticket office or online
Online combined offer €32 Online only, on some trains

Seven trains leave Palma (10:10, 10:50, 12:15, 13:30, 15:10, 18:30 to be confirmed, and 19:40) and eight come back from Sóller. The full timetable, journey times and tips are in the Palma to Sóller train guide, and the official fares at trendesoller.com.

Direct versus the platforms

The platforms don't sell plain train tickets: what you will find on GetYourGuide, Tiqets or Civitatis are packages that include the train.

  • Train + tram + boat to Sa Calobra, self-guided: €65 at tourmallorca.com, the commercial partner the railway's own website links to. The same price appears on Tiqets and GetYourGuide. Buying direct saves nothing here: choose the channel for its cancellation policy.
  • Guided version with hotel pick-up: €78 direct at tourmallorca.com, with pick-ups in southern areas such as Palma, Magaluf or El Arenal. On GetYourGuide, similar tours from the south start from €103.
  • Half-day train and tram: GetYourGuide sells tours from €56; the same train and tram trip on your own costs €40 at the ticket office or €32 online.

What you buy on a platform is its cancellation policy. On GetYourGuide you can usually cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before if the listing allows it; on the railway's official channel you never get your money back. If your dates are uncertain, that can be worth the difference.

What travellers say

The company doesn't collect reviews on its website, so the best guide is the ratings of the packages that include the train. The self-guided train, tram and boat combo scores 4.6 out of 5 on Tiqets (66 reviews) and 8.3 out of 10 on Civitatis from more than a thousand reviews; on GetYourGuide the equivalent trip scores 4.4 from more than 1,300.

Local guides single out the 10:10 as the busiest train, and since plain tickets are only sold at the ticket office, it pays to arrive early. The 10:50 takes just as long and is the obvious alternative.

How to book, change and cancel

How to buy direct

  1. If you want the train + tram, buy the package on the official website and check which departures carry the €32 offer.
  2. If you only want the train, go to the ticket office at the station by Plaça d'Espanya on the day of travel.
  3. Arrive 30 minutes before departure, as the company asks.
  4. With the package, the trains are fixed and you can take the tram at any time.
  5. If you need to change, do it before 09:00 on the day of travel.

The rules are in the official FAQs: no refund once the ticket is issued, only guide dogs or pets in an approved carrier, and no bicycles or e-scooters. For questions, the phone number is 971 752 028.

Alternatives to the train

Can you buy Ferrocarril de Sóller tickets online?

Only the return train + tram package (€40, or €32 with the online offer on some departures). Plain train tickets are bought at the ticket office on the day.

Does the Ferrocarril de Sóller give refunds?

No. Tickets are non-refundable once issued; you can change the date or time until 09:00 on the day of travel.

Is it cheaper to buy the Sóller train direct or on GetYourGuide?

For the train and tram, direct: €32–40 against tours from €56. For the combo with the boat to Sa Calobra, the self-guided price is the same, €65, at the official partner, Tiqets and GetYourGuide.

Is the Ferrocarril de Sóller publicly owned?

No. It is a private limited company that runs the line under a concession until 2055, and its tickets are not part of the TIB system.

The company doesn't publish a child or resident fare. The boat combos to Sa Calobra do have a price for children aged 6 to 11.
