Planning Palma with kids is mostly a question of the calendar. The island's big parks are not inside the city and each one has its own season: the nearest water park, Aqualand El Arenal, is closed until the 2027 season; Western Water Park (Magaluf) is open until 31 October; Marineland and Katmandu Park open daily until 1 November. The only big day out that never closes is Palma Aquarium, at Playa de Palma.

This guide tells you what is open each month, what it really costs a family, how to get there by bus from the centre and what ages boats, buggies and water sports require. Official prices come from each park's website; the GetYourGuide, Tiqets and Headout prices are in the comparison tables.

  • June to September: everything is open. Water parks in the morning, the beach mid-afternoon, the aquarium on the hottest day.
  • October: the tricky month. Aqualand has already closed, Western closes on the 31st and can shut on odd days for bad weather. It is also Palma's wettest month of the year, although the sea is still around 22 °C.
  • November to March: Palma Aquarium daily, Marineland only at weekends and on public holidays, plus the trips east (Safari Mallorca, the Coves dels Hams and Dinosaurland), which open all year.
  • April and May: Western, Katmandu and Marineland's daily season come back; Aqualand usually opens in early May.

If it rains, see also what to do in Palma when it rains: the aquarium and Katmandu are the indoor options that work best with children.

Three things the booking listings do not tell you:

  • Family packs at the Aspro parks are only sold on their own website. At Marineland the 2 + 2 pack costs €90, against €110 for four separate tickets (2 × €32 + 2 × €23). At Western Water Park, €112. The 25% large-family discount only applies at the ticket desk and cannot be combined with other offers.
  • Every park counts age its own way. Marineland and Western have a "mini" rate for 3- to 4-year-olds (€15–17) and a child rate for 5 to 10. Palma Aquarium and Katmandu charge the child rate from age 3. Hams and Dinosaurland are free up to age 2.
  • Tickets are valid for one specific day. At Katmandu, only for the date you choose; at Marineland, one day within the 90 days after purchase.

Palma Aquarium: the family day out that is open all year

Palma Aquarium opens 365 days a year, 09:30 to 18:30 (last entry 17:00). It costs €30.50 per adult and €19.50 for ages 3 to 12; under-3s go in free. A family of 2 + 2 pays €100.

What works with kids:

  • The Big Blue, one of the deepest shark tanks in Europe, 8.5 metres deep with 10 sharks.
  • The Jungle, indoors, with a 7-metre waterfall.
  • Ocean Play, an indoor playground included in the ticket (11:30–17:00), plus an outdoor one.
  • Sleeping with sharks (€54): a night at the aquarium for children aged 6 to 12, without parents.

The ticket costs the same on the official website and on the platforms:

Until 31 October, the official website gives 15% off from 14:00 (from €26): that is the cheapest ticket. Arrive before 15:00 to have two hours. And a warning for dolphin fans: the aquarium has no dolphins. That is Marineland.

Water park in Palma de Mallorca: Aqualand and Western Water Park

There is no water park inside the city of Palma. The two nearest are on the outskirts, one on each side of the bay.

Aqualand El Arenal: closed until the 2027 season

Aqualand, in S'Arenal (exit 13 of the Palma–Arenal motorway), has finished its season and does not reopen until the 2027 season. Its season usually runs from early May to late September, 10:00 to 17:00, and until 18:00 in July and August. Next year's dates are not published yet: check them on the official Aqualand calendar.

For reference, an adult ticket has cost €40 at the desk and €38 online, and the 2 + 2 family pack €118 (online only). You get there on EMT 23 from Plaça d'Espanya, which stops right opposite the park's car park.

Western Water Park (Magaluf): until 31 October

Western Water Park is the water park open right now near Palma. It is in Magaluf (Calvià), about 15 minutes by car on the Andratx motorway (exit 13). Its season runs from 2 April to 31 October. In spring it closes on several Sundays and Mondays, opens daily from late May, and its hours are 10:00 to 17:00 (until 18:00 in July and August).

  • Price: adult €38 at the desk and €36 online; child aged 5 to 10, €30 / €28; aged 3 to 4, €17; under-3s free.
  • 2 + 2 family pack: €112, website only.
  • For little ones: Kidzworld, the children's area. Older kids head for Boomerang, La Bestia or Tornado.
  • By bus: TIB 106 from Palma and Palmanova.

Buying on the official Western Park website you pay €36, less than on the platforms (€38). In autumn it may close for bad weather: check its website that same morning.

Marineland Mallorca: dolphins, sea lions and parrots

Marineland is in Costa d'en Blanes (Calvià), about 10 minutes by car from Palma, and it is still open. The dolphin shows still go on: Spain's 2023 animal welfare law restricts breeding cetaceans in captivity, but lets animals already there stay in the parks and keep performing. It is not Marineland Antibes (France), which is the one that closed.

  • Opening hours: daily from 1 April to 1 November, 10:00 to 17:00 (last ticket sales at 16:00). From 2 November to 31 March, weekends and public holidays only, 10:00 to 15:00.
  • Price: adult (11–65) €32; child aged 5 to 10, €23; aged 3 to 4, €15; over-65s €23; under-3s free. The same at the desk and online.
  • 2 + 2 family pack: €90, only on the Marineland website.
  • Shows until 1 November: sea lions at 12:00 and 16:00, dolphins at 12:20 and 16:20, with parrots, penguins and seals in between. In winter there is a single round: sea lions at 12:30 and dolphins at 12:50.
  • By bus: TIB 104, 106 and 107 stop at Marineland in both directions.

All three channels sell the ticket at €32, the same as the desk. For a family, the only real saving is the 2 + 2 pack on the official website (€90). Tip: arrive before 11:45 to get a seat for the first dolphin show. If you turn up at 16:00, the last desk hour, you miss half of it.

Katmandu Park (Magaluf): the indoor park

Katmandu Park is in Magaluf, at Av. Pere Vaquer Ramis 9, about 250 metres from the sea. It opens from 3 April to 1 November, 10:00 to 18:00 (last entry 17:00); for July and August its website does not yet confirm the hours, so check before you go.

  • Price ("Passport" pass, one go on each attraction): adult from €31, child aged 3 to 12 €22, 2 + 2 family pack €80. Under-3s free.
  • What's there: the upside-down house (The House), 4D and XD cinemas, mini golf, laser tag, a soft play area and the Katopia Splash Park, an outdoor water zone.
  • Why we like it: almost everything is under cover. It is the rainy-day option around Calvià.

The same promotions apply at the desk as online, and the official adult price (€31) is lower than on the platforms (€33). With two children, the €80 family pack saves the most.

Further afield: Safari Mallorca, caves and adventure parks

These take half a day or a full day from Palma, but they open all year and rescue the winter weeks.

Safari Mallorca (formerly Safari-Zoo)

In Sa Coma, on the east coast, an hour away by car. Open all year, 09:00 to 18:00 (entry 09:15 to 16:30). The visit has changed: the safari is now done on the park's own bus, and driving in with your own car costs €17.90 extra. Adult (13–64) from €21.90; children aged 3 to 12 and over-65s from €17.90; under-3s free. Without a car: TIB 401 from Palma to the Av. Sa Coma stop (about 15 minutes' walk from the park) and, from April to October, the park's free bus from east-coast hotels.

Coves dels Hams and Dinosaurland

On the Manacor–Porto Cristo road, with a TIB 401 stop. The Coves dels Hams (€18.50 online, €12.50 for ages 3 to 12) take an hour at a constant 20 °C, but pushchairs are not allowed and there are lots of steps. Next door, Dinosaurland has more than 100 life-size dinosaurs and a fossil dig area, and is fully pushchair-accessible. With a baby, bring a baby carrier or have one adult wait outside the cave. If you want caves with a concert, the Drach caves are in the same area: see our Caves of Drach guide.

Treetop adventure parks

  • Jungle Parc (Santa Ponça): four courses in a pine wood, from €16 (Family-Zen, from age 3) to €22. Cash only. The Junior and Explorer courses fill up from 10:30 to 12:30: arrive at opening time or after 12:30. Ages: Junior from 4 years and 1.05 m; Explorer from 10 years and 1.40 m.
  • TirolinasGo Mallorca (formerly Forestal Park): at Playa de Palma, 5 minutes' walk from the beach, with zip lines up to 250 metres. The family course is from 1.10 m (about age 5) and takes around two and a half hours. Book it from €26 on Tiqets.

Palma's three Blue Flag beaches are Ciutat Jardí, Cala Estància and Cala Major. All three have lifeguards and an assisted bathing service. Platja de Palma and Can Pere Antoni have no Blue Flag, although they do have lifeguards.

  • Ciutat Jardí: sand, shallow and sheltered water. EMT 35 from Plaça de la Reina, every 10–12 minutes. Our favourite with kids.
  • Cala Estància: next to Can Pastilla, also on the 35.
  • Cala Major: to the west, on EMT 4 from the centre, every 10 minutes on weekdays. The Fundació Miró is next door, free for under-16s.
  • Can Pere Antoni: the city beach below the cathedral, walkable from the old town.

Lifeguards are on duty until late October and, in October, only until 17:00. After heavy rain, Cala Major, Can Pere Antoni and Ciutat Jardí can be closed to swimming for a day or two because of sewer overflows: check the flag. All the details, beach by beach, are in Palma beaches.

The bus with kids: on EMT, under-5s travel free with an adult. The cheapest fare is a contactless bank card, with a discount for groups of up to five people; cash is €2 per journey. One card covers the whole family on EMT and on TIB buses. More in public transport.

Boats, dolphins and water sports: minimum ages

A boat trip is one of the best things to do in Palma with kids, but each company sets its own ages:

Activity Age or requirement
Bay catamaran (Magic Catamarans) free for ages 0 to 6, half price for 7 to 14
Life & Sea boats (S'Arenal) half price for ages 3 to 12
Barca Samba party boats and sunset trips adults only
Parasailing with Life & Sea from age 10 and able to swim
Jet ski driver 18+, or 16–17 with parental consent
Buggy (Son Oms) rear passenger from age 4; front from age 12 and 1.35 m
Quad passenger from age 7 and 1.30 m
Shark dive (Palma Aquarium) over-18s only

For dolphins in the wild there are two serious companies: Palma Cruises (3 hours from the Passeig Marítim, €55 adult and €35 child boarding at the pier, 10% less on its website) and Life & Sea (€80 adult and €70 for ages 3 to 12, from S'Arenal or Can Pastilla). Sightings are not guaranteed, and Palma Cruises keeps 20% if you cancel within the 3 days before. Compare departures in dolphin watching in Mallorca and everything else in boat trips.
